The generation gap

Note : im from india and dis whole blog would pretty well be about indian society and everything associated wit it...
Ppl have always been talking about the generation of today and how it is aping the western culture... about how youngsters are following the western culture blindly... but come to think of it... the so called adults of today are no different... it is these adults who start copying things blindly from the west... all rite... the dresses worn by the youth of today are just a blind lift off.... but the very basic framework of our society is by itself not very unique... the constitution of india adopted the british constitution and also the british parliamentary system, british legal system and principles of administration... and also laws introduced by the british raj during their tenure of rampage in India... but this was only to be expected... so this may not be a very valid argument... so coming on to other things...
as i was saying... the dresses worn by youth of today may be ripoffs... not just literally... but take the case of an employee in the government... why the hell is he supposed to wear a coat to work??? the brits had it...cos it was cold in their country... try wearing a dhoti in britain... god knows which part of your body may freeze... but ours is a tropical country... we cant just straight away ask people to wear those uniforms... that is so inhuman... and im not saying that people must only wear dhotis to work... dey must b given more choice... certainly the youth of today did not ask dem to wear those coats...
its not the youth that built the cinema industry as it is today... and dey certainly did not name it as 'bollywood'... 'kollywood' or 'tollywood'... and indian idol ??? cudn't dey come up wit another name... did it have to be like american idol...which by itself was a ripoff from pop idol... big boss from big brother ... and i cud go on and on..the worst was indian idol btw...wen u rip it off... u cud at least get a new logo... aren't these ripoffs ??? don't they come under that category ??? the youth of today didn't do that...
not only that... the recent fuss is about swine flu...well of course its a pandemic and all that... but certainly its not something that should b bothering us indians... i mean statistics say that around 550 people die every day in india due to common flu... and swine flu (as of now) has not even taken a 100.... the ting may b that it is in cities that it is attacking ... but still what im saying is that there r many more tings to be afraid of... and just because america doesn't have 550 people a day dying of flu..swine flu was regarded a mass killer... but shat s not the case in india... when all these r in no way were started by the youth of today... what about f1 races and all??? force india was finally recognized in the world and so we are gonna have a race track by 2011.... hell... america has lots of reserves of crude oil... and it has a hold on iraq and afghanistan... it can afford to do all these... not india which does not have much oil to supplement itself...
why the hell does everyone keep blaming the youth of being blind when they themselves r not so very different???

You're very right dude, good post!

Just one thing though, these things on TV, like indian idol and all, isn't it the youth that takes so much interest in following these things, because of which people think they can rip off more things. See people wouldn't rip off from western culture if they didn't think that the people of India would find it appealing. Without an audience, without consumers, there is no means of making profit in anything. So the youth still do play a part in just following these things...(though yes it's not only the youth that follows all this)

Keep posting, it was a very thought provoking entry :)
